Why we built Scrolls
The short story of how a reading app for long-form writing became the thing we spend all our time on.
Every few months we find ourselves doing the same thing: opening an article, losing the thread, and closing the tab with the feeling that we never actually read it.
We built Scrolls because we wanted the opposite experience. Not a feed. Not a streak. A place where a 4,000-word essay can be read the way a good chapter is read — in one sitting, with your attention intact.
What we optimise for
- Legibility first. Type, line length and contrast are tuned before anything else.
- A queue, not a stream. You decide what goes in; nothing is injected.
- Calm by default. No notifications, no badges, no red dots.
What we’re not building
We’re not building a social network, and we don’t plan to. Reading is a private act, and the app should stay out of the way.
